In the mid-1960s, Ford’s Galaxie models faced the daunting task of challenging the dominant Impala. Despite the Impala’s stronghold in the full-size market, the Galaxie persisted as a credible alternative, maintaining Ford’s pride.

Particularly noteworthy was the success of the 1966 Galaxie 500, ranking as the third best-selling convertible in the United States after the Impala and the Mustang.

One standout from the 1966 lineup was the Galaxie 500 7 Liter, featuring a powerful 428 ci (7.0 liters) engine sourced from the Thunderbird. This engine, also available in the Mercury S-55, churned out 345 horsepower, positioning the Galaxie as a formidable competitor to the Impala SS.

Recently, a 1966 Galaxie 500 appeared on eBay, listed by seller 68jbat. Sporting its original 390 engine, the car is described as still operational despite a prolonged stay in a barn. While specifics about its time in storage are scarce, the vehicle boasts an original engine with a four-barrel carburetor and a 3-speed manual transmission.

An interesting alteration noted by the seller is the conversion from a column shift to a floor configuration, a modification leaving room for enthusiasts to explore customization options.

Although the Galaxie exhibits signs of wear, including rust, and the need for metal repairs such as a floor patch and trunk panel replacement, its overall condition presents an opportunity for a complete restoration.

The seller has initiated a reserve auction on eBay, setting a minimum selling price with bidding open for nine days. Prospective buyers interested in inspecting the Galaxie firsthand must journey to Winamac, Indiana.
