Tesla enthusiasts have uncovered fresh details regarding the upcoming Model 3 Performance, as leaked data shared on X (formerly Twitter) suggests a substantial boost in power.

A leaked document from the South Korean Ministry of Environment, highlighting power specifications and drivetrain details for the Model 3 Performance, indicates the introduction of a new rear electric motor generating 406 horsepower.

This corroborates previous indications of a new electric motor for the rear axle, rumored to be the 5D1 motor featuring a carbon sleeve rotor, thereby enhancing performance.

Although intriguing, it’s crucial to note that the authenticity of the document remains unverified, rendering the information unofficial. Tesla’s policy of not responding to media inquiries further adds to the uncertainty surrounding the leaked data.

Amidst the speculation, the latest leak refers to the new electric motor as the ‘4D2,’ suggesting a potentially impressive acceleration for the latest iteration of the high-performance electric sedan.

Reportedly, the front motor remains unchanged, delivering 212 hp. With this configuration, the combined output would reach an impressive 618 horsepower, marking a significant increase over the outgoing model’s power.

For context, the current Model 3 Performance boasts approximately 430 horsepower, indicating a substantial upgrade if the recent rumors hold.

The existing model achieves 0 to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 162 mph. Consequently, the upcoming iteration is anticipated to achieve a sub-three-second sprint time and potentially exceed 170 mph.

Despite the new Model 3’s longer dimensions compared to its predecessor, it is expected to maintain a similar weight, ensuring that the Performance trim does not incur a weight penalty.

Moreover, the enhanced power, coupled with the new 4D2 electric motor, is anticipated to deliver improved top-end response and mid-range acceleration, particularly evident during highway driving and overtaking maneuvers, while maintaining impressive off-the-line speed.

The forthcoming Model 3 Performance, already spotted ahead of its official revealing, is rumored to bear the ‘Ludicrous’ badge alongside a new emblem reminiscent of the Model S Plaid.

Full details are anticipated to be introduced by mid-year at the latest, providing enthusiasts with comprehensive insights into Tesla’s latest electric performance offering.
