Ford’s access to the Tesla Supercharger network has officially begun, prompting the provision of new charging adapters to owners for compatibility with Tesla’s NACS plug.

Until June 30, 2024, owners of 2021 through 2024 Ford EV models can obtain the adapter from Ford at no cost. Starting July 1, the adapter will be available for purchase at $230.

The Next Generation of Ford EVs will come factory-equipped with NACS plugs, allowing seamless use of Superchargers.

The adapter, rated for max current and voltage comparable to a CCS2 charger, ensures no compromise in charging speeds for Ford’s EV lineup, including the Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, and E-Transit.

To facilitate payment at Superchargers, Ford integrates its FordPro app, eliminating the need for the Tesla app.

Navigation to Superchargers is streamlined through Ford’s native system or the FordPass app, filtering out incompatible chargers and highlighting those requiring the adapter. With roughly 15,300 added chargers.

Ford significantly expands its charging network, setting a precedent as the first manufacturer to join the Supercharger network officially.

Other automakers are expected to follow suit, with similar access via adapters anticipated shortly, leading to broader adoption of NACS plugs in electric vehicles by 2025.
