Ford has officially launched its supercharger upgrade for the S650 generation Mustang GT and Mustang Dark Horse, courtesy of its in-house tuning division, Ford Performance.

Introduced at the 2023 SEMA Show, this supercharger kit bolsters the latest iteration of the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine, delivering a performance akin to that of supercars, all for the price of $9,995.

Dubbed the M-6066-M8800, the supercharger kit for the Mustang GT and Mustang Dark Horse elevates the Coyote V8’s output to a formidable 810 horsepower at 7,500 rpm (when coupled with active exhaust), with torque peaking at 615 lb-ft at 4,500 rpm.

Notably, these figures are slightly lower than those achieved by Lethal Performance previously, which recorded 807 hp and 635 lb-ft of torque at the wheels, albeit with a different setup compared to Ford Performance’s offering.

The Ford Performance supercharger kit comprises a Gen 6 3.0L Whipple Supercharger featuring an exclusive inverted twin-screw design, complemented by a patented dual-pass intercooler, a 92mm throttle body (part number M-9926-M5292), colder spark plugs (part number M-12405-M50A), GT500 port fuel injectors, a Tomahawk calibration delivery tool, and calibration from Ford Performance.

Notably absent from the package are upgrades such as a half-shaft upgrade and street-lowering kit, which were included in the FP800S kit showcased at the 2023 SEMA Show.

However, purchasers can still benefit from the same three-year or 36,000-mile warranty when the kit is installed by a Ford dealer or ASE-certified technician and registered on the Ford Performance Parts Tech-line.

While Ford Performance offers the Gen 6 3.0L Whipple Supercharger setup for the Mustang GT and Mustang Dark Horse, Whipple Superchargers itself presents a similar package at a comparable price point ($9,995.99 with Whipple Powertrain Warranty) and power output.

However, the tuning company offers two stages, with Stage 2 boasting a potential output of up to 855 hp. This increased power is made possible through the use of a 112mm billet throttle body, higher RPMs, elevated shift points, and other non-Ford Performance components utilized by the tuner.

It’s worth noting that both the Ford Performance and Whipple Superchargers setups are not street-legal in California, a factor potential buyers from the Golden State should consider before making a purchase.
