Ford is still a big player in the automotive world

Ford wants everyone to know that it’s still a big player in the automotive world. They’re proud to say they’re number one in producing vehicles, shipping cars from the US to other countries, and having the most hourly workers. This information comes from S&P Global Mobility, which just released reports about the car industry for 2023. Nearly 80% of all Ford models sold in the US are made right here.

Ford is an old and well-known American car company. It started way back in 1903 with Henry Ford, and it’s been making cars ever since. You might recognize some of their popular models like the Ford F-150, Transit, and Mustang.

A few weeks ago, Ford announced its best month ever for hybrid car sales. This is significant because their first hybrid came out in 2004. As they celebrate this success, it’s important to remember that Ford still has some problems to solve. They’re dealing with issues like production quality and problems with their BlueCruise ADAS system.

Now, onto the good news. According to the new reports, Ford has been the top car producer for the last five years in a row. They made over 1.8 million vehicles in the US last year, which is more than any other carmaker. The success is partly due to the popularity of models like the F-150, Maverick, and the electric Lightning.

Ford’s president, Andrew Frick, says, “Ford is a uniquely American company. We are proud to serve our customers with vehicles that embody the best of American innovation and ingenuity.”

Ford also sent over 260,000 American-made cars to other countries last year and employed over 57,000 hourly workers to make it happen. They’re even creating more jobs in places like Michigan and Tennessee.

But it’s not all good news. Ford had the most recalls last year, and there have been issues with their hands-free driving systems causing accidents. Their electric vehicle division has also lost a lot of money this year, more than in 2023. This has led to big discounts on models like the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning, even though Ford is still pushing hybrid sales and not giving up on their electric future.
