Ford announced a recall for the newly launched Transit Custom shortly after beginning local deliveries. This recall is due to a critical software issue within the Power Steering Control Module (PSCM), which affects the Lane Change Warning Assist (LCWA) feature. According to the recall notice, “Due to a software issue within the Power Steering Control Module (PSCM), the Lane Change Warning Assist (LCWA) feature may not operate as intended.”

The malfunction of this feature poses a significant safety risk. The company elaborated, “As a result, there is an increased chance of a collision with another vehicle. A loss of the LCWA feature could increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury to vehicle occupants and other road users.” In light of this issue, many of the affected Transit Custom vehicles had not yet been delivered to customers.

A spokesperson for Ford Australia provided further details: “Ford Australia issued a stop-ship notice for the new Ford Transit Custom, which has now been lifted, to rectify a software issue with the Power Steering Control Module (PSCM). Around 50 vehicles were sold before the stop-ship being submitted, and these customers will be contacted by their dealer to have rectification work completed.”

In total, 1117 vehicles are impacted by this recall. Ford has provided a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) list for owners to check if their vehicle is included. The original recall notice is also available for further details. Ford encourages any owners with additional questions or concerns to reach out to the Ford Customer Relationship Centre at 13 36 73.
