In the Miami Grand Prix, Norris won against Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. A safety car came out during the race, giving Norris the chance to restart in the lead and drive away from Verstappen to win convincingly.
It took Norris 109 races to achieve his first win. He said he never doubted it would happen, even if others did. Norris believed in himself and his team.
“I’ve had moments when I was close to winning but couldn’t convert it,” Norris said. “Some people doubted I could win, but I wasn’t worried. This year, I felt more confident than ever.”
In the 2021 Russian Grand Prix, Norris had a close call due to a strategy mistake in the rain. This incident made some doubt his ability to handle the pressure of racing for wins.
“People talk about that race a lot,” Norris said. “Even after a mistake I made in China last weekend. But I don’t let it bother me. I just focus on proving them wrong.”
“When people doubt me, I want to show them they’re wrong,” Norris added. “It’s not about making anyone upset, but it feels good to prove what I can do.”
“I wanted to say something like ‘to whom it may concern,’ but I didn’t want to copy someone else’s phrase,” Norris joked.
