Mercedes boss James Allison hinted that Red Bull might have slowed down its RB20 car with recent updates.

“It looks like their upgrade made things worse,” Allison said. “So, let’s hope this messes them up.”

But despite these doubts, Red Bull won the Canadian GP. Team principal Christian Horner joked about Allison’s comments, saying, “Even with our downgrade, we still beat their upgrade. It was a good race to win.”

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won in Montreal, even though the team had expected it to be tough due to their weakness with riding kerbs.

Horner said winning in such circumstances was satisfying, especially since they were heading to tracks where aerodynamics are more important.

“We’ve won two out of the last three races, even with a car that has some issues,” Horner said. “We know these issues could be a problem at circuits like Singapore later in the year. Ferrari, McLaren, and Mercedes are all getting stronger, so we need to stay sharp.”

Despite Mercedes’ strong performance in Canada, Horner didn’t think they were back in top form yet.

Mercedes usually do well on green tracks with few fast corners,” he said. “So maybe the track suited them more. Let’s see how they do in the next races to know if they’re really back in the game.”
