Mercedes-Benz Issues Recall For SUVs Over Electrical Concerns

Mercedes-Benz has initiated a recall affecting 116,020 SUVs spanning various models, including those from Mercedes-Maybach and Mercedes-AMG. The recall addresses a potential issue with the 48-volt ground connection located beneath the passenger seat, which, if left unresolved, could pose a fire hazard.

The affected vehicles, manufactured between 2019 and 2024, encompass a range of models, including the Mercedes-Benz GLE350, GLE450, and GLE580, along with the GLS450 and GLS580. Additionally, Mercedes-AMG variants such as the GLE53 SUV and coupe, GLE 63S, and GLS63 are included, as well as the Mercedes-Maybach GLS600.

According to filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall aims to rectify a potential flaw in the 48-volt ground system beneath the front passenger seat.

During production, the ground connection may loosen, leading to overheating and, subsequently, a risk of fire. The NHTSA documents specify that all vehicles covered by the recall could be affected by the loose ground connection.

Notably, drivers may not receive any warning from their vehicle until the connection has already become loose. In such cases, a warning message related to the 48-volt power supply may appear in the instrument cluster.

Owners of the affected SUVs are urged to promptly address the issue by scheduling a service appointment with their authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership. Mercedes-Benz is committed to ensuring the safety and satisfaction of its customers and will address the recall promptly to mitigate any potential risks associated with the electrical concern.
