Bagnaia Penalized Following Clash with Alex Marquez
Bagnaia will have to start three places back on the grid for Sunday's Italian Grand Prix at Mugello

During the second practice session at Mugello on Friday, Alex Marquez from Gresini had to stop his fast lap because Francesco Bagnaia was going too slow near Turn 12.

Marquez was very angry and showed his frustration to Bagnaia as they both went around the corner.

Both riders qualified for Saturday’s Q2 session, with Bagnaia leading the second practice.

But Bagnaia will have to start three places back on the grid for Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix at Mugello. However, this penalty won’t affect the sprint race.

Before the penalty, Bagnaia said he didn’t see any blue flags warning him about Marquez coming behind him. He also said Marquez’s reaction was normal for him.

Marquez said he was slowed down by Bagnaia from the second sector of the lap.

He said, “I saw Pecco in front from sector two being really slow in the middle of the track. I was expecting him to watch behind to see me, but he never did it. Going into Turn 12 he was completely in the middle of the line, on the racing line. I was able to avoid him, but I had to cut the throttle. So, for me, it’s quite clear what happened.”

When asked about Bagnaia’s reaction, Marquez said, “He also said he was out of the line. And it’s not true. So, I will not say any more. He knows what happened, I know what happened. So, that’s it.”

If Bagnaia is found to have ridden irresponsibly by the FIM stewards, he could get a penalty for Sunday’s race.
