Richard Childress Racing officials have told Motorsport.com that they are talking with Will Brown about driving the No. 33 Chevrolet in the June 9 race at Sonoma Raceway in California.

Even though the deal isn’t finished, a spokesperson for RCR said it’s nearly done, and they’ll make an official announcement soon.

Brown is 25 years old. He might join other Supercars racers like Shane van Gisbergen, Brodie Kostecki, and Cam Waters who have raced in NASCAR in the past two years.

Brown is doing well in the Supercars standings this season. He’s won three times for the Triple Eight Race Engineering Red Bull team. In his career, he’s won eight times in 108 starts.

Austin Dillon, a Cup driver for RCR, said, “I don’t know a lot of detail about it, but I know it’s a good possibility that it’s happening. I don’t know that it’s completed yet.”

Brown has raced with RCR before. In December, he filled in for Kostecki in a World Racing League event at Circuit of the Americas. Dillon said, “Me, him and Kyle were kind of teammates on that deal. It was fun. It was a last-minute thing. He came in and kind of jumped in there for us.”

Dillon also mentioned how different driving styles can affect the cars. “Obviously, those guys are really solid with their car. They have a subtle difference in their driving style, and they use the clutch a little bit more. It’s what they do to keep the tires on those cars. Anytime you can kind of learn for those guys and make the program better, I think it’s good.”

Last July, van Gisbergen, who is 34, won his first Cup race in his debut, making him the first driver in over 60 years to do so. His win got him interested in NASCAR. Now, he’s racing full-time in the Xfinity Series and part-time in Cup races.

Kostecki, 26, started racing in what’s now called the ARCA East series in 2013 and 2014. He made his Cup debut last year at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course.

Waters, 29, has made two starts in the Truck Series this year with ThorSport Racing, including the recent race at Kansas Speedway.
