The Kia Tasman truck has been recently spotted during test runs at the Hyundai Mobis Winter Test Center in Sweden, where it was seen alongside the Ford Ranger Raptor. This sighting suggests that the Tasman might come in different variants or will possess strong off-road capabilities right from its launch.

Similar to the prototype seen in Korea last month, the vehicle is heavily camouflaged with false panels, making it challenging to discern specific details.

However, notable features include vertical LEDs and a bold grille with large slat gaps, showcasing a more aggressive design compared to existing Kia models, hinting at the possibility of a Raptor-like trim.

At the rear, vertical taillights flank the tailgate, while step boards on the bed corners indicate a focus on practicality alongside style.

Although precise dimensions are hard to determine, the bed appears spacious, and the wheel arches seem ample for off-road maneuverability. It’s expected that the rocker panels, bumpers, and wheel arch surrounds will be protected by cladding, although details remain unclear.

While the interior hasn’t been revealed, it’s anticipated to feature modern Kia technology and touchscreen displays. Regarding powertrain options, no official announcements have been made, but there have been discussions about a turbocharged V6 engine.

Unlike the Hyundai Santa Cruz, the Kia Tasman will be a ladder-frame pickup truck, competing in the midsize truck segment globally against models like the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, and Mitsubishi Triton.

Given the popularity of trucks in the US, it’s likely that Kia will offer the Tasman in this market. Meanwhile, Hyundai is focusing on developing two Ioniq electric trucks based on recent trademark filings.
