Report: Christian Horner's Job at Red Bull Threatened, Legal Action Prevented Dismissal

Red Bull’s Team Principal, Christian Horner, was recently cleared of alleged misconduct with a junior team member after a two-month investigation.

However, reports suggest that Red Bull’s CEO, Oliver Mintzlaff, had already decided to dismiss Horner in early February. Mintzlaff intended to handle the matter discreetly, allowing Horner to leave without publicizing the allegations.

According to sources, Mintzlaff was prepared to issue a press release announcing Horner’s departure on February 2, citing “health reasons.” Horner, who has been with Red Bull Racing since its inception in 2005, refused to accept this termination.

He engaged his legal team to challenge the CEO’s decision, demanding arbitration and threatening legal action if dismissed without a fair investigation.

BusinessF1 Magazine revealed that Mintzlaff was convinced that the evidence against Horner was substantial and believed an arbitrator would rule against him.

Despite wanting to swiftly resolve the matter, Mintzlaff faced pressure from external stakeholders, including Ford, set to partner with Red Bull in 2026. Ford, along with other team principals, called for transparency regarding the investigation’s outcome.

The aftermath of the investigation has led to speculation and tension within the team. Jos Verstappen, father and manager of Red Bull’s driver Max Verstappen, publicly clashed with Horner. Rumors suggest Jos Verstappen is exploring options with Mercedes for Max’s future contract, posing a significant challenge to Red Bull’s stability.

Horner’s public appearance in the paddock with his wife, Geri Halliwell-Horner, appeared orchestrated to manage public relations. Meanwhile, leaked information from the investigation has raised questions about its independence and conclusion.

As the situation continues to unfold, doubts linger over Horner’s presence in the paddock and its impact on the team’s reputation, with the ongoing scrutiny surrounding Horner, the credibility of Red Bull Racing and Formula 1 as a whole remains at stake.
