People might not associate the Real Housewives series with cars, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t fancy cars involved. The show’s cast members often drive luxury vehicles. In a recent incident, Karen Huger, a star of Real Housewives of the Potomac, got into trouble. She was charged with driving under the influence after crashing her Maserati, according to USA Today.

Huger was driving a Maserati in Potomac, Maryland, when the accident happened. Reports say she crossed a median and hit street signs. She was driving aggressively and speeding. Luckily, she was alone in the car, so nobody else got hurt. Huger herself didn’t suffer any serious injuries. However, she was officially charged with DUI the next day.

Huger explained that the crash occurred after she had dinner with a friend. The conversation touched on sensitive topics, which made her emotional. In a statement to TMZ, she said:

“Last night I met a girlfriend for dinner, we talked and brought up some very emotionally sensitive topics. I was crying on my way home and saw a car heading right for me. I swerved to avoid the head-on collision, hit the divider, and then a tree. I’m hurt and bruised up a bit, but so grateful I am alive! I did receive citations, one of which was unrelated to the understandable incident, but what was most surprising is that the car that almost hit me just drove away!”

It’s not known what her blood alcohol level was at the time of the crash or what penalties she might face if convicted. Despite the incident, Huger stressed the importance of wearing seatbelts.

She said, “I would like to stress, that it’s important to understand your emotional state when driving, and may this be a reminder to all to use their seatbelts, my Mother maybe my Guardian Angel but the seatbelt saved my life.” So, at least she’s emphasizing safety.
