The Nigeria Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA) has urged the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to implement import duties in naira rather than dollars, citing concerns over fluctuating FX rates. NACCIMA President Mr. Dele Oye emphasized this shift during an interview on Arise TV News Night, stressing the need for the Federal Government to lead by transacting in local currency, reflecting global norms.

As of today, March 30th, 2024, Nigerian Customs import duties stand at ₦1,303.84 per dollar, marking a notable improvement from early February’s rate of over ₦1,400 per dollar.

In a bid to enhance road safety and regulatory compliance, the Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) recently conducted a crackdown, impounding over fifty rickety commercial vehicles across the state. This enforcement operation targeted vehicles failing to meet minimum roadworthiness standards, focusing on aspects like brakes, lights, and tires.

Abuja-based Real Estate Mogul and Philanthropist, Adah Mohamed Usman, made headlines by gifting music artist Portable a Mercedes-Benz S-Class (S350) Convertible, valued at over N20 million, in recognition of his contributions to the Nigerian music scene.

Meanwhile, the Lagos Blue Line continues to provide commuters with a safe and efficient transit option. Since becoming fully operational last year, the first phase of the 37-kilometer project has transported 583,000 passengers, achieving significant milestones in just four months after commercial operations began.

Initiated by Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Blue Line aims to transport 250,000 passengers daily initially, with plans to accommodate up to 500,000 passengers daily upon completion of the entire 37-kilometer track from Marina to Okokomaiko.

Similar to BRT buses, riders can utilize the cowry card for access to the electric train. Presently, the fare for a full ride along the 13-kilometer stretch between Marina and Mile 2 stands at N750 Naira (excluding the current 25% fare reduction).
