Bugatti Says Its Track-only Bolide Hypercar Can Pull Away From Formula 1 Car

Bugatti’s track-only Bolide hyper sports car, having completed testing, is now transitioning to series production, marking its imminent availability for customers in a few months. Introduced as a response to exclusive models like the Mercedes-AMG One and the Aston Martin Valkyrie, the Bolide is designed to prioritize lap times over sheer top speed, although it can still reach an impressive 380km/h in a low-downforce configuration.

Despite its exceptional speed, Bugatti emphasizes the Bolide’s focus on track performance, with chief test driver Andy Wallace asserting its capability to outpace even a Formula 1 car in certain scenarios. Wallace describes the exhilarating acceleration from corner exits to high speeds, highlighting the Bolide’s relentless power delivery and its ability to navigate corners with precision, underscoring the car’s suitability for circuit driving.

Bugatti’s approach to the Bolide’s design underscores its commitment to optimizing cornering, traction, and braking, rather than solely prioritizing straight-line speed. This strategy ensures that the Bolide excels in track conditions, where agility and handling are paramount. The company notes that the only limitation for the Bolide’s speed is the availability of straight sections long enough to unleash its full potential, with most FIA-approved tracks having straights shorter than 2 km.

As Bugatti shifts its focus from testing to series production, it reiterates the exclusivity of the Bolide, with only 40 units slated for production worldwide. Each hypercar commands a starting price of $4.6 million before additional customization options, emphasizing its status as a highly coveted collector’s item. Despite its limited availability, Bugatti’s completion of the testing phase signals the imminent arrival of a groundbreaking hyper sports car that promises unparalleled performance on the track.
