Federal regulators are checking if there’s a safety problem with Tesla’s Cybertruck. This happened after a person who owns one said in a video that a part of the accelerator pedal got loose while they were driving and got stuck, making the car go super fast.

The owner, Jose Martinez, lives in California. He put a video on TikTok on Sunday talking about a “big problem” with his Cybertruck and explaining what happened. He said that a few days earlier, something on the accelerator pedal moved forward and got stuck, making it impossible to let go and making the car go as fast as it could.

“It held the accelerator down 100%, at full throttle,” he said. “I was lucky enough, had a clear mind, didn’t panic. And holding the brake down overrides the pedal, so I was able to stop the car. But anytime I’d lift the break it would start accelerating again.”

“Somebody that panics, that could be pretty dangerous. Crazy,” Martinez added.

The video got a lot of views very quickly, and now even the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is looking into it.

The NHTSA said in a statement to Business Insider: “NHTSA is aware of this issue and is in contact with the manufacturer to gather additional information.”

Martinez told Business Insider that he still likes his Cybertruck and thinks “it’s a great car.” He was surprised that his video got so much attention.

Tesla, the company that makes the Cybertruck, didn’t say anything about this when asked by Business Insider.

Since Cybertrucks started being sold to people in November, they’ve been popular, especially among famous people and big Tesla fans. But there have been some problems.

Cybertruck owners have talked about other things they don’t like about the car, like gaps in the doors, rust spots, and handprints. Some owners even said that soon after they got their Cybertruck, it started beeping and showing a red alert saying, “PULL OVER SAFELY Critical steering issue detected.”

But despite all this, some Cybertruck owners still love their cars.

“I think Tesla gets away with a lot of stuff because the driving experience is that good,” said Donald Green, a Cybertruck owner in Texas. “Once you start driving Tesla, you never go back.”
