Buying a car nowadays can be very expensive. New cars are getting pricier, with the average transaction price nearing $50,000. But there are some new options that are much cheaper.

One of them is the Eli Zero, which costs $11,900. It’s a small electric car designed for city or suburb commutes. It’s like a scooter but with the comfort of a seat and the protection of doors and a roof.

The Eli Zero is a “Neighborhood Electric Vehicle” (NEV). It’s a two-seater with a small 8 kWh battery. This battery gives it a range of 60 miles in Europe, and a version with a 90-mile range might come to the U.S.

It can only go up to 25 mph due to federal regulations for NEVs. But this speed is enough for most city roads, just like a scooter. However, unlike a scooter, it has car-like features such as air conditioning, a small trunk, and Apple CarPlay.

NEVs have been around in the U.S. for many years. The Eli Zero is one of the more car-like options available. It’s better than other NEVs like the Changli.

Even though $11,900 might seem like a lot for a car that’s limited to 25 mph, it’s cheaper than many electric scooters. It’s also a better choice than some electric cars that cost three times as much, like the Fiat 500e or Mini Cooper SE.
