The Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) recently apprehended a vandal on the 3rd Mainland Bridge for tampering with newly installed road infrastructure aimed at maximizing visibility at night.
The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Mr. Friday Nwafor, was caught around 8:00 am while damaging the road light indicators, which are self-illuminating in dim areas or nighttime, enhancing driver visibility. This incident occurred during an LNSC patrol in the Lagos Mainland area inward Oworo.
Upon noticing the suspect’s actions, LNSC officers swiftly intervened and took Mr. Nwafor into custody. He was subsequently handed over to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos Command, Mr. Adegoke Fayoade. The prompt response from LNSC officers prevented further damage to the neighborhood’s infrastructure and ensured that the perpetrator faced legal consequences for his actions.
Prince Dr. Ifalade Oyekan, the General Manager of LNSC, commended the agency’s officers for their vigilance in apprehending the suspect and protecting community assets. Oyekan emphasized the importance of residents reporting any suspicious activities to the LNSC, underscoring the collaborative effort needed to maintain safety and preserve public amenities.
The stolen road light indicators are crucial for enhancing driver visibility, particularly in low-light conditions. Made of reflective materials and equipped with self-illuminating features, these indicators play a significant role in ensuring road safety.
The incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in safeguarding public infrastructure and highlights the necessity for continued vigilance and community involvement in maintaining security and preserving essential facilities.
