The new Bugatti Chrion’s successor is on its way, and it’s bringing a massive V16 engine with it. Bugatti-Rimac CEO Mate Rimac talked about the upcoming hypercar and its gigantic motor at a conference in London.

Rimac said the new V16 engine will be naturally aspirated, meaning it won’t have turbochargers. But it won’t be entirely natural; there will also be a big electric part in the powertrain. He mentioned that the engine will be a whopping 39.3 inches long, which is over a yard, or 16 inches longer than the current W16 engine.

This new engine will replace the current W16 engine, which has been powering Bugatti cars like the Chiron and Veyron. The rumors about the V16 engine suggest some interesting details:

– It might have a massive 8.3-liter size.
– It could rev up to 9,000 rpm.
– It might work with three electric motors, possibly producing a total of 1,800 horsepower.
– The electric motors might drive the front wheels, while the third one powers the rear axle.
– There might be a big battery that provides around 37 miles of electric range.

Bugatti’s engineers are aiming for some impressive performance numbers with this new car. It could go from 0 to 62 mph in about two seconds and reach 186 mph in less than ten seconds. The top speed could be electronically capped at 277 mph.

Even though there are many changes under the hood, Rimac says the new Bugatti will still look like a Bugatti. He believes it’s essential to maintain the brand’s heritage while also embracing new technologies. Rimac fought for a V16 engine over an all-electric option because he believes it will evoke more emotion, staying true to Bugatti’s spirit.

In the end, Rimac believes a V16 engine that’s naturally aspirated and over a yard long will make the new Bugatti Chrion’s successor truly special.
