Rivian, a US-based electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has been granted an incentive package of $827 million by the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity. This financial boost aims to assist Rivian in expanding the capacity of its plant located in the state.

With this funding, Rivian plans to enhance its facility in the upcoming months to accommodate the production of its midsized SUV model, the R2. Additionally, the plant will continue to manufacture Rivian’s existing models, including the R1S, R1T, and commercial electric delivery vehicles.

Since its commencement in 2021, the facility has already rolled out over 100,000 EVs, as reported by the company.

RJ Scaringe, the founder and CEO of Rivian, expressed gratitude for the support received from the state. He mentioned that this backing will facilitate the swift introduction of their midsize SUV, the R2, into the market, thus broadening the options available to consumers seeking EVs.
