Recent reports have emerged of a concerning issue affecting Tesla Model 3 Performance owners. Several individuals have observed fluid leaks beneath their vehicle’s rear drive unit, leading to concerns about potential damage and safety implications.

While the leaks have been described as small, they have caused significant anxiety among owners, particularly as the issue seems to have manifested relatively early in the life of these vehicles.

Initial investigations suggest that the source of the leaks lies in a faulty breather valve within the drive unit. This valve, responsible for regulating pressure within the unit, appears to be malfunctioning, leading to excessive internal pressure that forces fluid past the axle seals.

Unfortunately, Tesla has been slow to acknowledge the issue, with some service centers initially dismissing the reports and blaming customers for the leaks. After returning home from the service center, Tim’s Tesla Model 3 Performance began leaking fluid again, despite the recent repairs.

Frustrated with the recurring issue, he took to X to express his disappointment. To his surprise, Tesla responded promptly, acknowledging the problem and offering an explanation for the persistent leakage.

It seems that the company’s engineers are currently working on a solution, which is expected to be available in the coming weeks. While the initial repair appeared to have resolved the issue, the subsequent leak suggests that there may be an underlying problem with the rear drive unit.

Tesla’s acknowledgment of the issue and its commitment to finding a solution are encouraging steps toward resolving the problem for Tim and other Model 3 Performance owners affected by this issue.
