Bentley is set to introduce a high-performance variant of its Bentayga SUV next year, which will not feature any significant hybrid technology, despite the brand’s broader plans for electrification outlined in its Beyond100+ strategy, starting in 2026. This new model is expected to appeal to customers who are still seeking a powerful and engaging Bentayga, particularly after the discontinuation of the W12 engine variant. The new version is expected to offer enhanced performance without resorting to hybrid assistance.

The new high-performance Bentayga will likely use a refined version of the existing 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8, which currently produces 542 horsepower in the sportier S variant. This engine, while well-established, was initially designed to provide performance headroom for the W12 engine, but with the W12 now discontinued, Bentley can push the V8 further. The tuned V8 could be capable of delivering a power output similar to that of the Audi RS Q8, which boasts 592 horsepower.

In an interesting departure from some of its competitors, Bentley will not include a plug-in hybrid powertrain like the one found in the Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid. Instead, the new Bentayga will feature an unassisted V8, which will not only help reduce the overall weight of the SUV but also enhance its dynamic performance. This decision reflects Bentley’s commitment to creating a lighter and more agile vehicle, offering a more engaging driving experience than the previous W12-powered Bentayga Speed, which was hampered by the heavy 12-cylinder engine.

To further improve the handling and performance, Bentley is expected to incorporate advanced chassis technology, such as an active anti-roll system, rear-wheel steering, and air suspension. These features, combined with the lighter weight and increased power, will likely make the new Bentayga the most dynamic version of the SUV yet. The new model is also expected to feature visual updates, including larger brakes, potentially with carbon-ceramic options, and new 22-inch or even 23-inch wheels, all contributing to a more aggressive and sporty appearance.

The high-performance Bentayga will come with a hefty price tag, likely exceeding £200,000, reflecting its status as a flagship model. However, production will be limited, especially as Bentley’s Beyond100+ strategy approaches its 2026 deadline for ending the production of pure internal combustion engine (ICE) models. This makes the new Bentayga a potential collector’s item for performance SUV enthusiasts who want a powerful, non-hybrid luxury vehicle before Bentley transitions fully to electric power.
