Nissan is looking to end the production of Titan. It is said that the Japanese automakers will end the show off Nissan Titan after 2022. In 2021, Nissan already stopped selling Titan in Canada. It is still an unconfirmed report. Titan will be on sale for a few years at least before abandoning it entirely. Nissan will be out from the competition of Big 3 trucks. Nissan was regularly compromising with their engine and cutting off their features. It is currently offering one machine, and it also stopped diesel models last year. The competitors like Ford, Chevy, and Ram sprinted away in this race while Nissan kept it loose. Even the new Toyota Tundra stepped ahead of the Titan. Toyota has better sales for their Tundra in comparison to Nissan’s Titan.
There is no replacement for The Titan yet. But we should expect something big in the way: an EV truck or an upgraded Titan?
Titan: Nissan’s Pickup Truck
Japanese automakers first introduced their pickup truck “Titan” in 2004. It is a full-sized Pickup truck. The assembly of the car is in the United States. Production of the first generation began in 2003 and carried on till 2015. It had a 5.6-liter engine, VK56DE, which offered 3127 hp and 385 lb-ft of torque. It was a feature-loaded truck with proper safety standards. The second generation was launched in 2016, while production started in 2015. The standard engine was a 5.6-liter V8 gasoline engine. It was an upgrade from the previous generation. This engine offered 390 hp and 394 lb-ft of torque.
What do Titan’s sales in the U.S. showcase?
The best sales years for Titan were 2017 and 2018, selling 52,924 and 50,459 trucks, respectively. Nissan was losing out from 2019, with sales dropping almost 40%. In the years 2020 and 2021, Sales stood out at 26,441 in 2020 and 27,406 in 2021. The drastic decline in sales could be the only possible reason for discontinuing their pickup truck. Nissan has already stopped selling Titan in Canada, cutting sales potential.
Ford, Chevy & Ram: The competitors
In 2021, Nissan sold just 27,406 Titan. While Ford sold 726,004 F-series trucks, Ram sold 569,388 1500s, and Chevy sold 519,774 Silerados. All these big players just outgunned Nissan. Even the new player in pickup trucks – Toyota tundra, surpassed the sales numbers of Titan. Toyota sold 81,959 Tundra in 2021, i.e., more than thrice the numbers of Nissan Titan. According to CarSalesBase, the Titan is the worst-selling large pickup truck in the U.S.
What to expect after Titan?
If The Japanese automakers are discontinuing their pickup truck, they must have another plan. As of now, the company provides no statements or confirmation regarding anything. After the end of Titan, could we expect an EV pickup truck? Well, it is not yet known. But, Nissan needs to make a comeback with a pickup truck. Recently Ford and GMC announced their All-electric Trucks. Looking at the trend and the necessity, we believe that Nissan will make its Titan an electric automobile. And, after all, the future holds EV as the most sustainable and a better option.
