Volkswagen is set to reveal its latest addition to the GTX lineup, derived from an unexpected candidate: the family-oriented ID. Buzz electric minivan. The automaker has provided a glimpse of the forthcoming model through a new teaser shared on LinkedIn, confirming that the souped-up ID.

Buzz will make its debut during the company’s Annual Press Conference on March 21. The giveaway? The teaser reveals distinct triangle-shaped daytime running lights, a signature feature of the GTX series, as seen on recent models like the ID.7 GTX Tourer and the ID.3 GTX hot hatch.

Having already been spotted undergoing testing at the Nürburgring, the performance minivan showcased its prowess with a dual-electric motor drivetrain producing 335 horsepower.

While its substantial size and weight may not promise blistering acceleration, reports suggest it should still offer a spirited driving experience, with an estimated 0-60 mph time of around six seconds, fitting for its segment.

What We Know So Far

The ID. Buzz GTX will enter the arena with 335 horsepower and all-wheel drive, mirroring the electric powertrain setup of the ID.7 GTX Tourer. While some may have anticipated a more potent output considering its weight, Volkswagen appears to prioritize balance over sheer power in this application.

Nevertheless, expect enhancements to the suspension for improved agility and a more engaging driving experience, akin to the revisions seen in the ID.3 and ID.7 GTX models, including features like DCC adaptive chassis control and progressive steering.

Despite the camouflage concealing finer details, the ID. Buzz is anticipated to sport more aggressive styling cues and exterior accents.

Anticipated upgrades include 20-inch Skagen wheels, distinctive grille inserts, and a sporty rear diffuser. Inside, expect supportive seats with enhanced bolstering, upholstered in eco-friendly yet sporty materials in line with the GTX branding.

In a League of Its Own

The ID. Buzz GTX stands out as a unique offering, carving a niche as the sole electric minivan emphasizing performance. While the demand for high-performance minivans may not be widespread, Volkswagen’s initiative to infuse excitement into this segment is commendable.

Notably, the US-bound ID.Buzz will differ from its global counterparts, featuring a long-wheelbase configuration. While the GTX variant may not make its way to the US market, the availability of a 300+ horsepower electric minivan provides consumers with enticing options in the evolving electric vehicle landscape.
