Volkswagen is gearing up for the 24 Hours of Nürburgring race, and they’re introducing a new car, the GTI Clubsport, with 296 horsepower. This car is like a souped-up version of the regular GTI, with a lot more power. It can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 5.6 seconds and has a top speed of 166 miles per hour. The regular Golf is on its way out, and this GTI is one of the last ones. It’s a big deal, so it needs to be great.

Volkswagen hasn’t shared a lot of details about the GTI Clubsport yet. It has a stronger version of the engine found in other GTI models, and it comes with a standard front differential lock. The car might only be available with an automatic transmission, and there’s an option for better track performance with adaptive chassis control.

As part of the Clubsport package, you get a more aggressive-looking car with special front and rear designs and a big wing on the back for more downforce. Inside, there are red accents, and you can choose an optional “Race package” that boosts the car’s top speed. There are also new wheel options available.

It’s unclear if Volkswagen made this car to beat the front-wheel drive lap record at Nürburgring, which is currently held by the Honda Civic Type R S. To do that, they’d need to make the car lighter and add more downforce. We’ll have to wait and see if Volkswagen shares more details about the GTI Clubsport, including its price and if it’ll be available in the U.S.
